AKM Jahangir Hossain (born 1954 – died 24 December 2020) was an important politician in Bangladesh. He was a member of the Bangladesh Awami League political party.
He served four times as a member of the Jatiya Sangsad, which is the Parliament of Bangladesh. He represented the Patuakhali-3 area.
Political Journey
AKM Jahangir Hossain was first elected to the Parliament in 1991. He won his seat from the Patuakhali-3 area. He was a candidate for the Bangladesh Awami League party.
He was re-elected to Parliament in 1996, 2001, and 2014. This shows he was a popular choice among the people he represented.
Role as Minister
In 1998, he was given an important job in the government. He became the State Minister of Textiles. This means he helped manage the textile industry for the country. He served in this role during the First Sheikh Hasina Cabinet.
Later Years
In 2008, he did not get to run for Parliament again. This was because of some disagreements within his party. Another politician, Golam Maula Rony, ran instead.
Later, in 2013, he was removed from some of the main committees of the Bangladesh Awami League.
His Passing
AKM Jahangir Hossain sadly passed away on 24 December 2020. He died from problems related to COVID-19. This happened during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. He was being treated at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in Dhaka.
