Tariq Amar Devega (born July 26, 1990), known as ASAP Nast (which is written as A$AP Nast), is an American rapper, songwriter, and model. He comes from Harlem, New York. Nast is most famous for being a member of the hip hop group called A$AP Mob.

With A$AP Mob, they released their first group project, a mixtape named Lord$ Never Worry, in 2012. His popular song, "Trillmatic", which features Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man, came out on December 4, 2013.

Early Life and School

ASAP Nast grew up in West Harlem, New York City. He lived near 116th Street and Morningside Avenue. When he was a kid, he often spent time with his cousin, ASAP Rocky.

Later, when Rocky moved to The Bronx, they lost touch for a while. But they were brought back together by ASAP Bari, who helped start ASAP Mob. Nast went to Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Manhattan. However, he left school early to focus on his music career. After leaving high school, he worked at a sneaker store called Atmos.

Music Career

How ASAP Nast Started in Music (2007–2012)

ASAP Nast was one of the first people to join the hip hop group ASAP Mob. This group was started in Harlem in 2007 by ASAP Yams, ASAP Bari, and ASAP Illz. Nast was first known as New York Nast. But he changed his stage name to include "ASAP" like most other members of the Mob.

Nast first appeared on ASAP Rocky's song "Uptown." He then showed up on two songs from the album Live.Love.ASAP: "Purple Swag: Chapter 2" and "Trilla."

On August 27, 2012, ASAP Mob released their first big project. It was a mixtape called Lords Never Worry, and it was available for free. Nast was on four songs from the mixtape, including a popular one called "Black Mane." After the mixtape came out, Nast went on tour with the rest of ASAP Mob. They performed 48 shows in just 61 days, and most of them were sold out!

The L.O.R.D. Album (2013–2014)

Singer Tinashe released a new version of her song "Who Am I Working For?" on April 16, 2013, which featured Nast. In July 2013, ASAP Ferg shared that ASAP Mob would release their first album after his own solo album, Trap Lord, came out.

In October 2013, ASAP Nast, along with ASAP Rocky, Ferg, Twelvy, and Ant, performed together at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards. On December 3, 2013, it was announced that the album would be released on March 4, 2014. The very next day, the first song from the album, "Trillmatic" by ASAP Nast, was released. It also came with a music video. This song was produced by ASAP Ty Beats and featured a part from the famous American rapper Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man. Many music critics really liked the song. The album's name was later changed to L.O.R.D..

Some people thought that L.O.R.D. might make Nast the next big star from the group. He was even considered for a list of new artists by XXL magazine in 2014, but he wasn't chosen. The L.O.R.D. album was expected to come out in 2014. However, ASAP Yams, who was a leader of ASAP Mob, later announced that the album was officially cancelled.

Musical Style

The magazine Complex said that ASAP Nast's music style is very much like the East Coast hip hop from the 1990s. This means it's different from the "trap" or "southern hip hop" sounds that some other ASAP Mob members use.

Vibe magazine described him as a rapper who uses a bold and fast-paced style. People have also said that he can change his rapping style to fit different types of beats and music eras. His song lyrics are often confident and full of rhymes that use many syllables.

Other Projects

Working with Brands

Many popular brands like Converse and Reebok have noticed ASAP Nast's influence. They have given him chances to design sneakers that mix classic styles with his own street-style look. He has released several shoes with Converse, using designs like the One Stars, Chuck 70s, and Jack Purcell Mid.

In the spring of 2021, ASAP Nast also started working with Reebok. They released a new color for the Classic Leather Legacy shoe, and then a Zig Kinetica II Edge shoe.
