A Barnstormer in Oz is an exciting fantasy novel written by Philip José Farmer. It was published in 1982. This book takes readers back to the magical land of Oz, first created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The story follows a new character named Hank Stover. Hank is a pilot, and he is also the son of the famous Dorothy Gale. In 1923, Hank's plane gets lost in a strange green cloud over Kansas. Suddenly, he finds himself in the Land of Oz!

What's the Story About?

Hank's Journey to Oz

When Hank Stover arrives in Oz, he finds a land facing big problems. The people of Oz are almost at war with each other. Hank soon meets a new villain, Erakna, who is a powerful and wicked witch.

Oz as You've Never Seen It

In this book, the Land of Oz is a bit different from what you might expect. Author Philip José Farmer decided to focus only on L. Frank Baum's very first Oz book. He did not include ideas from the many sequels that came later.

This means that in A Barnstormer in Oz, Dorothy has only visited Oz once. When Hank arrives, the Scarecrow is still the ruler of the Emerald City. This is just like how things were at the end of Baum's original Wizard of Oz story. This unique way of telling the story makes A Barnstormer in Oz a fresh adventure for fans of the Oz series.
