Aarathi (born in 1954) is an Indian actress. She was very popular in Kannada films during the 1970s and 1980s. She won many important awards, like the Filmfare Awards South and the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress, four times!
After taking a break from acting in the 1980s, she returned in 2005 as a director. Her film, Mithayi Mane, was highly praised. It even won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Children's Film. She was also chosen to be a member of the Legislative Council. This is like a special government group. She was only the second actress to get this honor.
Her Film Career
Aarathi started her acting journey with a small role in Gejje Pooje (1969). After that, she became a leading actress. She starred in over 120 films! Some of her famous movies include Naagarahaavu, Edakallu Guddada Mele, Bili Hendthi, and Ranganayaki.
She worked closely with the famous director Puttanna Kanagal. They made twelve films together. In 1986, she also directed a TV series called Namma Nammalli.
