Aaron Silverman is an American chef and restaurateur. He is famous for his Michelin-starred restaurants in Washington, D.C.. These include Rose's Luxury, Pineapple & Pearls, and Little Pearl. Silverman won a big award called the James Beard Foundation Award in 2016.


Aaron Silverman's Early Life and Career

Silverman grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. He finished high school at Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland. He first went to Northeastern University to study accounting and political science. But he soon realized he wanted to be a chef instead.

He then joined L'Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He also started working with Jonathan Krinn, a family friend. Krinn was a chef at 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia.

Learning from Top Chefs

In 2006, Krinn helped Silverman get a job at Jovia in New York City. After that, Silverman worked at several other famous restaurants. He learned from top chefs like David Chang at Momofuku Noodle Bar. He also worked with Marco Canora at Insieme and George Mendes at Aldea.

In 2010, Silverman moved to Charleston, South Carolina. There, he worked with Sean Brock at McCrady's Restaurant.

Starting His Own Restaurant

After a year at McCrady's, Silverman began planning his own place. He read a book called Setting the Table by Danny Meyer. In August 2011, he moved back to the Washington, D.C. area.

In 2012 and 2013, he held special "pop-up" dinners. This helped him create his menu and find people to invest in his dream. He found a vacant building in Barracks Row. This spot became the home of his first restaurant, Rose's Luxury.

Rose's Luxury and Pineapple & Pearls Restaurants

Rose's Luxury opened its doors in October 2013. It was an instant hit! The Washington Post newspaper gave it a great review. In 2014, Bon Appétit magazine called it the best new restaurant in America.

In 2016, Food & Wine Magazine named Silverman one of America's Best New Chefs. He also won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic region. This is a very important award for chefs.

Expanding His Restaurant Group

Silverman opened Pineapple & Pearls right next to Rose's Luxury in spring 2016. This restaurant offered a special 15-course dinner. The Washington Post said it was the best new restaurant of 2016.

Later that year, the first Michelin Guide for Washington, D.C. came out. Rose's Luxury received one star. Pineapple & Pearls was given two stars. Michelin stars are a sign of excellent food.

In December 2017, Silverman opened Little Pearl. This was a more relaxed cafe and wine bar. It was located near his other restaurants. In October 2019, Little Pearl also received one star in the Michelin Guide.

Awards and Recognitions
