Aaron Tveit (born October 21, 1983) is an American actor and singer. He is famous for his roles in Broadway musicals and on screen. He won a Tony Award for his lead role as Christian in Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway.
Tveit has also starred in other popular Broadway shows. These include playing Gabe in Next to Normal and Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can. He also played Enjolras in the 2012 movie Les Misérables. On TV, he's known for roles in Gossip Girl, Graceland, and Schmigadoon!.

Early Life and School
Aaron Tveit was born in Middletown, New York. His parents are Posie and Stanley Tveit. He has a younger brother named Jon. His family name, Tveit, comes from Norway.
Aaron went to Middletown High School. He graduated in 2001. While in high school, he was active in chorus and played sports like golf, soccer, and basketball. He also starred in all his school's musical plays. These included Little Shop of Horrors and West Side Story. He played the violin and French horn when he was younger.
He first planned to study business in college. But he decided to study vocal performance at Ithaca College instead. After his first year, he switched to musical theater. He missed acting and being on stage.
Aaron Tveit's Acting Journey
Starting on Stage: 2003–2007
Aaron Tveit began his acting career in 2003. He joined the national tour of the musical Rent. He was still in his second year of college at the time. Years later, in 2012, he finished his college degree. He received credit for his theater roles.
After Rent, he briefly went back to school. But he soon left to join the national tour of Hairspray. He played the role of Link Larkin. He made his first appearance on Broadway in this role in 2006.
In the next two years, he performed in other plays. These included Calvin Berger and The Three Musketeers. He then returned to the Broadway production of Hairspray. Aaron also made his first movie appearance in Ghost Town in 2008. He played a young doctor.
Becoming Well-Known: 2008–2011
In 2007, Aaron Tveit created the role of Gabe in the musical Next to Normal. This was an Off-Broadway production. He was nominated for an award for this role. Before Next to Normal moved to Broadway, he also played Dean in the musical Saved!.
In June 2008, Aaron took over the role of Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway. He left Wicked to play Gabe again in Next to Normal. For this, he won an award in 2009.
Aaron returned to Wicked in January 2009. But he left again in March to join the Broadway production of Next to Normal. His performance as Gabe earned him another award. He was also named one of the "Hottest Guys in Theater" in 2009.
He left Next to Normal in June 2009 to prepare for Catch Me If You Can. In this musical, he played Frank Abagnale Jr.. He returned to Next to Normal from September 2009 to January 2010. In August 2010, he also starred in a special production of Rent.
Aaron played Frank Abagnale Jr. in the Broadway show Catch Me If You Can. It opened in April 2011 and closed in September 2011. He was nominated for several awards for this role.
While performing in Next to Normal on Broadway, Aaron also had a recurring role on TV. He played Tripp van der Bilt in the CW series Gossip Girl. He also appeared in an episode of Ugly Betty. In 2010, he was in the movie Howl. He played Peter Orlovsky, the partner of poet Allen Ginsberg. He also appeared twice on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Focusing on Movies and TV: 2012–2017
In 2012, Aaron Tveit played Enjolras in the movie version of Les Misérables. This was a very important role for him. He performed with the cast of Les Misérables at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013.
In July 2012, Aaron took part in a reading for a new musical called Anastasia. He read for the character of Dimitri. The next year, he starred in the USA Network TV series Graceland. He played an undercover FBI agent named Mike Warren. The show ran for three seasons until October 2015.
Between filming seasons of Graceland, Aaron performed in London. He played John Wilkes Booth in Assassins. This show ran from November 2014 to March 2015. During this time, he also started performing solo concerts. He recorded his own album called The Radio in My Head. He also recorded a concept album for a new Broadway show.
After Graceland ended, Aaron appeared in more TV and film projects. In 2016, he played Danny Zuko in Grease: Live, a live TV musical on Fox. He also appeared on the soundtrack for Grease Live. He starred in the baseball movie Undrafted and the film Better Off Single.
In October 2015, it was announced that Aaron would star in the CBS series BrainDead. It premiered in June 2016. After BrainDead was canceled, Aaron performed more concerts in 2017. He also had roles in TV shows like The Good Fight and the film Created Equal. He returned to the stage in 2017 for a production of Company. He also had a role in the crime thriller Out of Blue.
Back to Broadway: 2018–Present

In 2017, Aaron Tveit took part in a workshop for the musical Moulin Rouge!. He was cast as Christian, the main character. In April 2018, it was announced he would play Christian in the musical's first show in Boston. Between the Boston and Broadway productions of Moulin Rouge!, Aaron had a role on the 2019 CBS show The Code.
Aaron starred as Christian in the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Previews began in June 2019, and the show officially opened in July. Critics praised his performance. The show paused in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aaron was one of the first Broadway stars to announce he had tested positive for COVID-19.
In October 2020, he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He was the only nominee in his category that year. He won the award. Aaron returned to his role as Christian when Moulin Rouge! reopened in September 2021. He left the show in May 2022.
During Broadway's closure in 2020, Aaron filmed the movie One Royal Holiday. He also was a cast member of the podcast Hit Job. In 2021, he appeared in two episodes of American Horror Stories. He also played Danny Bailey in the Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon!. In the show's second season, he played Topher. Aaron returned to Moulin Rouge! as Christian for 12 weeks starting in January 2023.
On February 9, 2024, Aaron Tveit took over the lead role in the Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. His run ended on May 5, 2024. From June 11–29, 2024, Aaron performed concerts at the Café Carlyle. In December 2024, he appeared in the MGM+ series Earth Abides. He returned to Moulin Rouge! as Christian for another 12-week run starting July 23, 2024.
In March 2025, Aaron performed with singer JoJo in a concert. His next role will be in the Broadway revival of Chess. He will play Freddie Trumper. Previews for Chess are set to begin on October 15, 2025.
Personal Life
Aaron Tveit moved to Manhattan in 2006. He lived in the Hell's Kitchen area. From 2007 to 2020, he lived in Astoria, Queens. He is engaged to actress and dancer Ericka Hunter Yang. They have one daughter.
