Aaron Kyle Tveit (born October 21, 1983) is an American actor and singer. He is famous for his work on Broadway, in movies, and on television.
Aaron Tveit played the main role of Christian in the Broadway musical Moulin Rouge!. For this role, he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2020. He was also nominated for a Grammy Award.
He has also starred in other Broadway shows. These include playing Gabe in Next to Normal and Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can. He even played the main character in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
On screen, Tveit played Enjolras in the 2012 movie Les Misérables. He was also Danny Zuko in Fox's live TV musical Grease: Live (2016). You might know him from TV shows like Gossip Girl (as Tripp van der Bilt) or Schmigadoon! (as Danny Bailey/Topher).

Early Life and School
Aaron Tveit was born in Middletown, Orange County, New York. His parents are Posie and Stanley Tveit. His brother, Jon, is a Catholic priest. Tveit's last name comes from Norway.
When he was a child, Aaron played the violin and French horn. He was very talented. He chose to study singing at Ithaca College. His parents supported his choice. After his first year, he switched to musical theater. He missed acting and being on stage.
Aaron Tveit's Career
Starting Out on Broadway (2003–2007)
Aaron Tveit started his acting career in 2003. He joined the national tour of the musical Rent. He played a character named Steve. He was also an understudy for the main roles of Roger and Mark. An understudy learns a role and performs if the main actor cannot.
At this time, he was still in college. Years later, in 2012, he got his college degree. His theater roles counted as college credit! After Rent, he played Link Larkin in the national tour of Hairspray. He made his first appearance on Broadway in this role in 2006.
He also performed in other shows. These included Calvin Berger and The Three Musketeers. He then returned to Hairspray on Broadway. His first movie role was a small part in Ghost Town (2008).
Becoming Well-Known (2008–2011)
In 2007, Aaron Tveit created the role of Gabe in the musical Next to Normal. This show was first performed Off-Broadway. Off-Broadway shows are smaller than Broadway shows. He was nominated for an award for this role.
He also played Dean in the musical Saved!. In June 2008, Tveit joined the Broadway show Wicked. He played the character Fiyero. He left Wicked to return to Next to Normal. He won an award for his performance in Next to Normal in Washington, D.C.
Tveit returned to Wicked briefly in 2009. But he left again to join the Broadway production of Next to Normal. His performance as Gabe earned him another award. He was also named one of the "Hottest Guys in Theater" in 2009.
He left Next to Normal to prepare for Catch Me If You Can. In this musical, he played Frank Abagnale Jr. He later returned to Next to Normal for a few months. He also played Roger Davis in a special production of Rent in Hollywood.
In 2011, Tveit starred as Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can on Broadway. He was nominated for several awards for this role. While performing in Next to Normal, Tveit also appeared on the TV show Gossip Girl. He played Tripp van der Bilt. He was also in an episode of Ugly Betty. He played Peter Orlovsky in the movie Howl.
Movies and TV Shows (2012–2017)
In 2012, Aaron Tveit played Enjolras in the movie version of Les Misérables. This was a very big role for him. He performed with the cast at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony.
In 2013, Tveit got a starring role in the TV series Graceland. He played Mike Warren, an undercover FBI agent. The show ran for three seasons.
While filming Graceland, Tveit also performed on stage in London. He played John Wilkes Booth in Assassins. He also started doing solo concerts. He recorded his own album called The Radio in My Head. He appeared in the movie Big Sky in 2015.
In 2016, Tveit played Danny Zuko in Grease: Live, a live TV musical. He also starred in the movie Undrafted. His next movie was Better Off Single.
In 2015, it was announced that Tveit would star in the CBS show BrainDead. After that show ended, he did more concerts. He also appeared in an episode of The Good Fight. He starred in the movie Created Equal. In 2017, he played Bobby in the musical Company. He also had a role in the movie Out of Blue.
Back to Broadway (2018–Present)

In 2017, Aaron Tveit worked on a new musical based on the movie Moulin Rouge!. He was cast as Christian. In 2018, he played Christian in the show's first performances in Boston. Between the Boston and Broadway shows, Tveit had a role on the TV show The Code.
Tveit then starred as Christian in Moulin Rouge! on Broadway. The show opened in July 2019. Critics loved his performance. One critic said he was "born to play" the role. The show stopped in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tveit was one of the first Broadway stars to announce he had tested positive for COVID-19.
In October 2020, he was nominated for a Tony Award for his role. He was the only nominee in his category and won the award! Moulin Rouge! reopened in September 2021, and Tveit returned as Christian. He left the show in May 2022.
During the Broadway shutdown, Tveit filmed the movie One Royal Holiday. He also appeared in the podcast Hit Job. In 2021, he was in two episodes of American Horror Stories. He also played Danny Bailey in the Apple TV+ show Schmigadoon!. In the second season, he played a different character named Topher. Tveit returned to Moulin Rouge! for a limited time in 2023.
In 2024, Tveit played the main role in the Broadway show Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. He also performed concerts at the Café Carlyle. It was announced that he was cast in the TV series Earth Abides. He then returned to Moulin Rouge! again for a limited time starting in July 2024.
Personal Life
Aaron Tveit moved to Manhattan in 2006. He lived in the Hell's Kitchen area. From 2007 to 2020, he lived in Astoria, Queens. He is engaged to actress and dancer Ericka Hunter Yang. They have one daughter.
