Abd Manaf ibn Qusai facts for kids

Abd Manaf al-Mughirah ibn Qusai was an important leader from the Quraysh tribe. He was the great-great-grandfather of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. His father was Qusai ibn Kilab.

About Abd Manaf

Abd Manaf was a respected person even when his father, Qusai, was alive. However, Qusai chose his first son, Abd-al-Dar ibn Qusai, to inherit all his leadership roles and the important House of Assembly.

After His Father's Death

After Qusai passed away, Abd Manaf disagreed with his father's decision about the inheritance. He believed he should have received the leadership roles. Many family members supported Abd Manaf in this disagreement. Others supported his brother, Abd ad-Dar. This family disagreement continued for a long time, even affecting the city of Mecca until the time of Prophet Muhammad.

His Family

Abd Manaf married several women from important tribes. These included Atikah bint Murrah, Raytah, and Waqida bint Amr.

Children and Tribes

Abd Manaf had many children. Some of his sons became the founders of important branches of the Quraysh tribe:

• From his wife Atikah bint Murrah:
  • Muttalib ibn Abd Manaf: He was the ancestor of the Banu Muttalib tribe.
  • Hashim: He was the ancestor of the Banu Hashim tribe, which Prophet Muhammad belonged to.
  • Abd Shams: He was the ancestor of the Banu Abd Shams tribe.
• From his wife Waqidah bint Amr:
  • Nawfal ibn Abd Manaf: He was the ancestor of the Banu Nawfal tribe.

Death and Burial

Abd Manaf passed away in Mecca. His grave can be found in the Jannatul Mualla cemetery there.
