About Abderrahman Ait Khamouch
Abderrahman Ait Khamouch was born on November 9, 1986, in Morocco. He is the second youngest child in his family. When Abderrahman was a child, he had a serious fall. This led to health problems. Doctors had to amputate his right arm to save his life.
When Abderrahman was 15, he wanted to move to Spain. He made several difficult journeys by boat. He finally arrived in Fuerteventura, Spain, in 2001. From there, he traveled to Madrid and then to Barcelona by train with friends.
When Abderrahman first started working in Barcelona, he was an attendant at a parking lot. He spoke French, which helped him with this job. He became a Spanish citizen on August 25, 2008.
Abderrahman wrote a book about his life. It is called "The Angel with the Crooked Wing" and was first written in Arabic. It has also been translated into Spanish. He can speak Spanish, French, and Arabic. In 2013, he received a special award called the silver Real Orden al Mérito Deportivo for his achievements.
Abderrahman's Athletics Career
Abderrahman Ait Khamouch is a Paralympic athlete. He mainly competes in middle distance and marathon events in the T46 category. This category is for athletes with a single arm amputation.
His very first race was in his hometown in Morocco. It was organized by French tourists. He won the race and received a small blue truck as a prize! After this, he wanted to compete more. He tried to join the Morocco Paralympic Committee, but they said no.
After moving to Spain, he took part in a race in Barcelona in 2003. His performance caught attention, and he soon found a coach. He then competed in more races in the area. The Athletics Federation of Catalonia and others helped him get Spanish citizenship. This allowed him to represent Spain in the 2008 Summer Paralympics.
Abderrahman's first athletics club in Spain was the Athletic Club Nou Barris. In 2004, he competed in the Spanish Paralympic national championships. He won a gold medal in the 800 meters race. In 2005, he received a scholarship from the Spanish Paralympic Committee. In 2008, he trained at a special center in Barcelona.
He also competed in the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships. He was one of 32 athletes representing Spain there. In 2012, he received a €2,500 scholarship to help with his coaching. That same year, he set a world record in his category at the Barcelona Marathon. This time also helped him qualify for the London Paralympics. He also ran his best time in the Barcelona half marathon that year. In July 2013, he competed in the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships. Paralympic Games Achievements
Abderrahman Ait Khamouch competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. He had great success there. He won a silver medal in the men's 1500 meters T46 event. He also won a bronze medal in the men's 800 meters T46 event. His medal in 2008 was the first Paralympic or Olympic medal won by someone from his hometown in Morocco. His parents were able to watch him win on television!
Four years later, he competed in the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, Great Britain. There, he won another silver medal. This time, it was in the men's marathon T46 event. Abderrahman finished second in the London Paralympics marathon. He was running with a cold and had a coughing fit near the end of the race.
