Abdirizak Sheikuna Mohamed (also known as Cabdi Maxamed) was born on October 25, 1996. He is a professional footballer from Somalia. Abdi plays as a defender for New Mexico United and is also a member of the Somalia national team.

Abdi Mohamed's Football Journey
Starting Out: Youth and High School Soccer
Abdi Mohamed began his football journey playing youth soccer. He played for the Classics Eagles team in Columbus, Ohio. He also played high school soccer at Westerville Central High School. In 2014, he was recognized as an All-State player for his skills.
Playing in College
After high school, Abdi continued his football career in college. He played for the Ohio State University team for three years. Later, he moved to the University of Akron for his final year of college soccer.
Becoming a Professional Player
In 2019, Abdi Mohamed took a big step in his career. He was chosen by New York City FC in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. This was a major achievement, as he was the 43rd player picked overall.
He then signed his first professional contract with New York City FC. Soon after, he was loaned to Memphis 901, a team in the USL Championship, for the 2019 season.
Playing for Different Teams
In February 2020, Abdi joined Greenville Triumph SC in the USL League One. The next year, his team won the 2020 USL League One championship. Abdi's great performance earned him a spot on the League One All-League Second Team.
In February 2022, Abdi signed with Columbus Crew 2, a team in MLS Next Pro. He played there for two seasons.
On May 3, 2024, it was announced that Abdi had signed a short contract with New Mexico United in the USL Championship. He made his first appearance for the club the very next day, on May 4, against Las Vegas Lights FC. In that game, he helped his teammate Daniel Bruce score the winning goal. Later, on May 28, 2024, New Mexico United signed Abdi for the rest of the 2024 season.
He scored his first goal for New Mexico United on June 29, 2024. It was a header that helped his team come back to win 3-2 against San Antonio FC.
Playing for His Country: Somalia
Abdi Mohamed was born in Kenya, but his parents are from Somalia. He grew up in the United States. In September 2019, he was called to play for the Somalia national football team. This was for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe.
On September 5, he played his first international game for Somalia. His team won 1-0 against Zimbabwe.
