Abigail Pierrepont Johnson (born December 19, 1961) is an American businesswoman. She is known for leading Fidelity Investments, a very large company that helps people invest their money. Her grandfather, Edward C. Johnson II, started Fidelity Investments.

Since 2014, Abigail Johnson has been the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Fidelity Investments. She also became the chairwoman in 2016. This means she is in charge of the whole company, which has 45,000 employees around the world.

Abigail Johnson is one of the wealthiest women in the world. As of June 2024, her wealth is about $35.6 billion. She has been listed among the most powerful women in the world by Forbes magazine since 2017. She is also the richest person in Massachusetts.

Abigail Johnson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 19, 1961. She grew up with younger brothers and sisters. Even though her family owned a big business, they didn't feel forced to join it. However, Abigail was interested in her father's work from a young age.

She went to a private school called Buckingham Browne & Nichols School. Later, she studied art history at William Smith College, graduating in 1984. After college, she worked as a consultant at a company called Booz Allen Hamilton. She then earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Harvard Business School.

Leading Fidelity Investments

Abigail Johnson joined Fidelity Investments in 1988, right after finishing Harvard Business School. Her grandfather, Edward Johnson II, founded the company in 1946. At that time, her father, Edward Johnson III, was the CEO.

She started her career at Fidelity as an analyst and portfolio manager. This means she studied different investments and managed money for clients. In 2001, she became the president of Fidelity Asset Management. She continued to move up in the company. In 2005, she became the Head of Retail, Workplace, and Institutional Business.

In 2012, she was named president of Fidelity. Two years later, in 2014, she became the CEO. By 2016, she also took on the role of chairman, giving her full control of the company.

Abigail Johnson has also brought new ideas to Fidelity. In 2018, she introduced cryptocurrency investment options. This made it possible for large investors to trade digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ether through Fidelity.

Abigail Johnson has been recognized for her leadership and influence in the business world. She has served on important committees and boards, including the board of the MIT. She is also the first and only woman to be on the board of the Financial Services Forum.
