Sir Abraham Roberts (born April 11, 1784 – died December 28, 1873) was a British Army general. He worked for the East India Company for almost 50 years in India.
His family was very brave! Sir Abraham had two sons who became high-ranking generals in the British Army. One of his sons and a grandson even won the Victoria Cross. This is the highest award for bravery in the British Army.

Early Life
Abraham Roberts grew up in Waterford, Ireland. His father, John Roberts, was a magistrate and a church leader.
Military Career
General Sir Abraham Roberts became a colonel in the Honourable East India Company army. He led the 1st Bengal European Regiment. He also commanded the Lahore Division.
He fought in the First Afghan War. This was an important conflict for the British in Asia.
Sir Abraham Roberts received a very special award called the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB). This award recognized his important service.
In 1853, he left India and moved back to Ireland. He lived there with his second wife. He also had a home in Bristol, England.
From 1862 until he passed away, he was the Colonel of the 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers).
Family Life
Sir Abraham Roberts was married twice. His first wife was Frances Isabella Ricketts. They married on July 20, 1820. After she passed away, he married Isabella Bunbury on August 2, 1830.
