Abu Haef Kigab (born November 3, 1998) is a professional basketball player. He plays for the PS Karlsruhe Lions in Germany. Abu is from both Sudan and Canada. He played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks and the Boise State Broncos. Abu was a very important player for Canada's team. They won a gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2017.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Abu Kigab was born in Khartoum, Sudan. When he was nine years old, his family moved to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He went to Queen Mary Public School there. Later, he attended St. Francis Catholic Secondary School. In 2015, he joined the Prolific Prep Academy in Napa, California.
In 2016, Abu was recognized as a rising star at a special basketball event. Experts like Scout and ESPN rated him highly. They called him a "four-star recruit." This meant many colleges wanted him to play for their teams. In March 2017, Abu decided to play college basketball for the University of Oregon.
College Basketball Career
Abu Kigab played for two different universities during his college years.
Playing for the Oregon Ducks (2017-2019)
Abu started his college career at the University of Oregon. In his first year, he played in almost all the games. He was known as one of the best defenders on the team. In his second year, he played 10 games. He then decided to transfer to another university.
Playing for the Boise State Broncos (2019-2022)
After moving to Boise State University, Abu had to wait to play. This was due to college transfer rules.
- Junior Year: He played in 20 games and started 18 of them. He scored about 11 points per game. He was one of the top scorers and rebounders for his team.
- Senior Year: Abu was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team. He started 25 games. He averaged nearly 12 points and 5 rebounds per game. He also led his team in blocked shots. He missed the last few games because of a shoulder injury.
- Fifth Year: Abu played an extra year at Boise State. He was again named to the All-Mountain West Second Team. He also won the Mountain West Championship MVP award. He started all 35 games. He averaged almost 15 points and 6 rebounds per game.
Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Abu Kigab began his professional career.
Niagara River Lions (2022)
In 2022, Abu was not chosen in the 2022 NBA draft. However, he joined the Toronto Raptors for their Summer League team. He had a great game against the Milwaukee Bucks, scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. Later, he joined the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for their training camp. He played two games for the Niagara River Lions in Canada.
Ottawa BlackJacks (2023)
In May 2023, Abu signed with the Ottawa BlackJacks. In his first game, he scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Spišskí Rytieri (2023)
Later in 2023, Abu signed with Spišskí Rytieri in Slovakia. He played 18 games there. He averaged almost 20 points and 7 rebounds per game.
MLP Academics Heidelberg (2024)
In January 2024, Abu moved to Germany. He joined MLP Academics Heidelberg. He played 12 games for them. He averaged about 8 points per game. He left the team at the end of the season.
PS Karlsruhe Lions (2024-Present)
In November 2024, Abu Kigab signed with the PS Karlsruhe Lions. This team is also in Germany's second-tier league.
Playing for His Country
Abu Kigab has proudly represented Canada in international basketball.
- He played for Canada at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Cup.
- He also played in the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
- In July 2017, Abu was a key player for Canada's team. They won the gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup. He averaged about 15 points and 11 rebounds per game. Because of his great performance, he was named to the tournament's All-Star Five. This means he was one of the top five players in the whole tournament!
