Abu Haef Kigab (born November 3, 1998) is a professional basketball player from Sudan and Canada. He currently plays for the PS Karlsruhe Lions in Germany. Before becoming a pro, Abu played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks and the Boise State Broncos. He was also a very important player for the Canadian team that won a gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2017.

Abu Kigab's Early Life and Basketball Start
Abu Kigab was born in Khartoum, Sudan. When he was nine years old, his family moved to St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He went to Queen Mary Public School and St. Francis Catholic Secondary School. In 2015, he joined the Prolific Prep Academy in Napa, California.
Becoming a Top Young Player
In 2016, Abu was recognized as a rising star at an event called Basketball Without Borders. Experts from Scout and ESPN ranked him as a four-star recruit for college basketball in 2017. This meant many colleges wanted him to play for them.
He decided to play college basketball for the University of Oregon in March 2017. He had also considered other big schools like Illinois, Baylor, and Kansas.
College Basketball Journey
Abu Kigab played for two different universities during his college career.
Playing for the Oregon Ducks (2017-2019)
Abu started his college basketball journey at the University of Oregon. In his first year, he played in 35 out of 36 games. He was known as one of the team's best defenders, often coming off the bench.
In his second year, he played in 10 games. He then decided to transfer to another university, Boise State University, during that same year.
Time with the Boise State Broncos (2019-2022)
After moving to Boise State, Abu had to wait to play. This was because of rules for players who transfer between colleges.
Junior Year Highlights
In his junior year, Abu played in 20 games and started in 18 of them. He scored about 11.1 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds per game. He was one of the top scorers and rebounders on his team.
Senior Year Success
During his senior year, Abu was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team. He started in 25 games. He averaged 11.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. He also led his team with 22 blocked shots.
Fifth Year and Championship MVP
Abu played a fifth year at Boise State. He had an amazing season, starting all 35 games. He averaged 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Mountain West Championship in 2022.

After his college career, Abu Kigab started playing basketball professionally.
Starting with the Niagara River Lions (2022)
In 2022, Abu was not chosen in the NBA draft. However, he joined the Toronto Raptors for their Summer League team in Las Vegas. He had a great game against Milwaukee, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
He later joined the training camp for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. He played in two games for the Niagara River Lions during the 2022 CEBL season.
Playing for the Ottawa BlackJacks (2023)
On May 5, 2023, the Ottawa BlackJacks signed Abu Kigab. In his first game, he scored 7 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and made 3 assists.
Moving to Europe: Spišskí Rytieri (2023)
Later in 2023, Abu signed with Spišskí Rytieri in the Slovak Basketball League. He played 18 games there. He averaged an impressive 19.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Playing in Germany: MLP Academics Heidelberg (2024)
In January 2024, Abu joined MLP Academics Heidelberg in Germany's top basketball league. He played 12 games, averaging 8.6 points. He left the team at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Current Team: PS Karlsruhe Lions (2024-Present)
In November 2024, Abu Kigab signed with the PS Karlsruhe Lions. This team plays in Germany's second-tier league, ProA.
Playing for Team Canada
Abu Kigab has proudly represented Canada in international basketball tournaments.
He played for Canada at the FIBA U19 World Cup in 2015 and the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in 2016.
In July 2017, he was a key player for the Canadian team that won the gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup. He averaged 14.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Because of his excellent performance, he was named to the tournament's All-Star Five team.
