Acacia wiseana is a type of shrub that grows in dry and partly dry areas. You can find it in northern Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

What is Acacia wiseana?

This plant is a spiny shrub that often grows to be about 1 to 4 meters (3 to 13 feet) tall. It can also spread out to be just as wide. Its branches are light green and smooth, meaning they don't have hairs. They are short, straight, and have small ridges.

Like most Acacia plants, Acacia wiseana has special leaf-like parts called phyllodes instead of true leaves. These phyllodes are light green and don't stand out much. They often fall off the branches. The phyllodes are thin and can be flat or slightly five-sided. They are usually 5 to 20 millimeters (0.2 to 0.8 inches) long and 1 to 1.5 millimeters (0.04 to 0.06 inches) wide. Each phyllode has five veins. This plant produces bright yellow flowers from July to September.

How Acacia wiseana Got Its Name

The plant Acacia wiseana was first officially described in 1942 by a botanist named Charles Gardner. He found a sample of the plant near Wandagee in Western Australia in 1932.

The second part of the plant's name, wiseana, was chosen to honor Frank Wise. He might have helped Gardner collect the plant sample.

Where Acacia wiseana Grows

You can find Acacia wiseana mainly in the Carnarvon region of Western Australia. It also grows throughout the Gascoyne and in parts of the Pilbara regions. From Western Australia, it spreads eastward into the Northern Territory. This plant prefers to grow in sandy loam soils, which are a mix of sand, silt, and clay.
