The Acheron River is a cool river found in the South Island of New Zealand. It flows through the Marlborough area. This river eventually joins up with a bigger river called the Clarence River.

Where the Acheron River Flows

The Acheron River starts its journey by flowing towards the southwest. After a while, it changes direction and flows towards the east. In total, the river travels about 60 kilometres (37 mi).

Joining the Clarence River

The Acheron River meets the Clarence River at a special spot. This meeting point is located at the southern end of the Inland Kaikoura mountains. These mountains are a well-known part of the South Island's landscape.

Other Rivers Joining Acheron

Before the Acheron River joins the Clarence, it gets water from a couple of other rivers. The Alma River and the Severn River both flow into the Acheron. This adds more water to the Acheron, making it bigger before it reaches the Clarence River.
