Ackerman is a town in Mississippi, United States. It is the "county seat" of Choctaw County. This means it's where the main government offices for the county are located. In 2020, about 1,594 people lived there. This was a small increase from the 1,510 people counted in 2010.
The town is named after William K. Ackerman. He was the president of a large train company called the Illinois Central Railroad from 1877 to 1883.

Ackerman is located in the southeastern part of Choctaw County. Important roads pass through or near the town.
Highways and Connections
Mississippi Highway 15 goes through Ackerman. It leads north about 16 miles to Mathiston. It also goes south about 15 miles to Louisville, Mississippi.
Mississippi Highway 12 passes through the northwest part of town. It leads northeast about 24 miles to Starkville. This is where Mississippi State University is located. Highway 12 also goes southwest about 31 miles to Kosciusko. From Highway 12 in Ackerman, Mississippi Highway 9 heads north about 17 miles to Eupora.

The town covers a total area of about 2.27 square miles (5.87 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.25 square miles (5.82 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water. Ackerman is located near the start of the Yockanookany River. This river eventually flows into the larger Pearl River.
