What is Ackermanville?
Ackermanville is a small village located along PA Route 191. It's a quiet place where people live. Even though it's small, it's part of a much larger area called the Lehigh Valley metropolitan area. This bigger area had over 861,000 people in 2020.
A Glimpse into Ackermanville's Past
Ackermanville got its name from the Ackerman family. In 1788, a man named Henry Miller built a house and two mills here. He had a grist mill for grinding grain and a saw mill for cutting wood.
Four years later, in 1792, Miller sold his property to John Ackerman. John Ackerman and his family moved here from Bucks County. John had six sons, and they all built their own homes nearby. Over time, more families came to live in the area.
In the early 1800s, the village was known as Ackermans Mill. Later, from about 1850 to 1870, it was simply called Ackermans. No one knows exactly when the name changed to Ackermanville.
Where is Ackermanville Located?
The village and the land around it get their water from Martins Creek. This creek flows south and eventually joins the Delaware River.
Ackermanville uses two different ZIP Codes for mail: 18013 (Bangor) and 18072 (Pen Argyl). It used to have its own ZIP code, 18010, but that was stopped in 2016.
