Adam Air Flight 574 was a regular passenger flight in Indonesia. It was operated by Adam Air. The flight was supposed to go from Surabaya to Manado.
On January 1, 2007, the plane crashed. It went down into the Makassar Strait. This happened near Polewali in Sulawesi. Sadly, all 102 people on board died. This accident had the highest number of deaths for any crash involving a Boeing 737-400 airplane.

The aircraft was a Boeing 737-4Q8. Its special number was 24070. The plane's registration was PK-KKW. It was built in 1989.
Before Adam Air used it, the plane was leased to seven other airlines. These included British Airways and Air One. The aircraft had flown for a very long time. It had flown for 45,371 hours. The Indonesian transport ministry checked the plane. They said it was safe to fly on December 25, 2005.
