History of Adams
Adams was first known as South Friendship. But the people living there didn't like that name. So, they asked the Chicago and North Western Railway to change it. The railway decided to call it Adams because it was a short and easy name.
In 1911, Adams became an important railway hub. This meant it was a central point for train lines. A part of the Chicago and North Western Railway, called the Milwaukee, Sparta, and Northwestern Railroad, started building a new line from Adams in 1910. This new line was sometimes called the "Air Line" or "Adams Cutoff." It went towards Sparta, Wisconsin.
