Adams is a small community in eastern Texas County, Oklahoma, United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2020, about 148 people lived there. Adams is located about 20 miles (32 km) east of Guymon, which is the main town in Texas County. It's also about six miles north of Optima Lake.
History of Adams
Adams got its own post office on June 14, 1930. The community was named after Jesse L. Adams. He was an engineer who worked for the Rock Island Railroad.
The Grain Elevator
Adams was once home to a special building called the Adams Woodframe Grain Elevator. This elevator was built in 1926, the same year the community was established. It was so important that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to American history.
However, the elevator became unusable in the 1980s. It was later considered unsafe and was taken down in 2018.
