Adamstown (Pennsylvania Dutch: Adamschteddel) is a small town, called a borough, located mostly in Lancaster County and a little bit in Berks County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is known for its history and unique businesses.
In 2020, about 1,938 people lived in Adamstown. Most of them, 1,772 people, lived in the Lancaster County part. Only seventeen people lived in the Berks County part.

History of Adamstown
Adamstown was first started on July 4, 1761. A person named William Addams founded it on the site of an old Native American village. He named the community Addamsburry.
The community officially became a borough on April 2, 1850. This happened after a bill was passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly. In that year, the town had a population of 307 people.
In 1855, a new stagecoach route was created. It went from Lancaster to Reading and stopped in Adamstown. A ride from Reading to Adamstown cost fifty cents back then.
The Kagerise Store and House is an important historical building in Adamstown. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. This means it's a special place worth protecting.
Adamstown is often called the "antiques capital" of the United States. Many people who buy and sell old items come here. The town is also home to Stoudt's Brewery, which opened in 1987. It was Pennsylvania's first "microbrewery," a small brewery. The Bollman Hat Company, the oldest hat maker in the U.S., has been here since 1868.

In 2010, Adamstown had 1,789 residents. The average age of people living there was 37.5 years old. Most of the people were non-Hispanic white. There were also smaller groups of Black, Native American, and Asian residents. About 1.7% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
In 2000, there were 1,203 people living in Adamstown. These people lived in 501 households, and 351 of those were families. The town had about 880 people per square mile.

Public Services
The Adamstown Area Library is located at 3000 North Reading Road. It shares a building with the Adamstown Borough office.
The library has grown a lot in recent years. It is now part of the Library System of Lancaster County. This means it serves over 31,000 people in Adamstown and nearby areas. The library is managed by its own board of trustees.
Many volunteers still help out at the library. They play a big part in making sure the library has enough money and helps with daily tasks. The library also has full-time and part-time trained employees. This includes a Library Director who has a special degree in library science.
Transportation
