The town of Addington was started in 1890. Its post office, which helps send and receive mail, opened on January 8, 1896. It was named after James P. Addington, who was the first person to be in charge of the post office.

Addington officially became a town in 1901. It grew a lot because it was built along the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad line. This railroad made it easier for people and goods to travel. Around 1915, Addington's population reached its highest point with about 1,000 people living there.

However, since then, the town's population has slowly gotten smaller. Even though there have been talks about closing the post office over the years, it is still open today.

In the past, Addington had its own newspapers. Some of these were the Addington Free Lance, the Addington Advertiser, the Addington Journal, and the Addington Herald.

Geography of the Town
