History of Aden Airport
Early Years and Military Use
This airport has a long history. It was first built in 1917. For many years, it was used by different military forces. During the 1970s and 1980s, it served as a base for the Soviet Air Force.
New Terminal Building
A new building for passengers was constructed between 1983 and 1985. This made the airport more modern. It helped handle more flights and travelers.
Aden Airport During Conflict
Airport as a Battleground
In 2015, there was a conflict in Yemen. The city of Aden, including its airport, became a place where fighting happened. This event is known as the Battle of Aden Airport. It took place on March 19, 2015.
Reopening for Travelers
After the conflict, the airport was repaired. It was reopened for regular flights on July 22, 2015. This allowed people to start using the airport for travel again.
