Discovering Adrenaline Peak's History
On August 17, 2017, Oaks Amusement Park shared some exciting news. They announced a brand new roller coaster for the 2018 season. They even showed what the ride would look like! The park also started a contest to name the new attraction. People could send in their name ideas until December 1, 2017.
To make room for the new coaster, the old Looping Thunder ride had to go. Looping Thunder gave its last rides on September 24, 2017. It was a common type of looping coaster from an Italian company called Pinfari. Looping Thunder had been at the park since 1996. A company from Seattle called WBF Construction Services took it apart in November. Everyone then got excited for the new ride!
Building the Coaster: A World Record
Building the new coaster started in the winter of 2017 and 2018. WBF Construction Services helped build it again. They worked with Ride Entertainment from Maryland. This company handles all the work for the coaster builder Gerstlauer in the Western part of the world.
The construction crew, Union Ironworkers, built the coaster super fast. They finished it in just 11 days, by February 16, 2018! This was a world record for how quickly a major roller coaster was built.
Naming the Ride
On February 15, 2018, Oaks Amusement Park announced the new name. The coaster would be called Adrenaline Peak. William Phillips from Clackamas County, Oregon suggested this name. He won a $500 gift card to the park! Adrenaline Peak opened to the public on March 24, 2018, and everyone was thrilled.
What Makes Adrenaline Peak Special?
The Thrilling Ride Experience
Your adventure on Adrenaline Peak starts with a left turn out of the station. Then, the coaster car connects to the lift chain. The chain pulls the car up a 72-foot (22 m) tall hill that goes straight up!
Once you reach the very top, the car drops down. It goes into a steep 97° drop! Right after that, you go through a Vertical loop. This loop is a nod to the old Looping Thunder coaster. Next, there's a cool twist called a cutback inversion.
The cars then zoom up into a high turnaround. After that, you'll experience a Heartline roll. This is another fun inversion! Finally, a sweeping turn leads you into the brake run. The coaster cars then make a left turn back to the station. The whole exciting ride lasts about one minute.
Key Facts and Figures
Adrenaline Peak stands 72 feet (22 m) tall. Its track is 1,050 feet (320 m) long. The ride reaches a top speed of 45 mph (72 km/h). This speed is hit during its signature drop, which is steeper than straight down at 97 degrees!
The coaster has three trains. Each train can hold eight riders. Riders sit in two rows, with four people in each row. You are held safely in place with a simple lap bar. The ride can handle about 700 people per hour.
The coaster is in the South End of the park. It's built where the old Looping Thunder coaster used to be. Adrenaline Peak has a bright blue and fuchsia color scheme. The track also has special lights from KCL Engineering. They've added similar lights to other famous rides. These include Monster at Adventureland and Hangtime at Knott's Berry Farm.
The Euro-Fighter Model
Adrenaline Peak was designed and built by a famous German company called Gerstlauer. It's part of their well-known Eurofighter series. These coasters are famous for their vertical lift hills. They also have small cars that hold eight passengers. This makes them a great choice for smaller parks. The first Eurofighter, Typhoon, opened in Belgium in 2004.
Adrenaline Peak is a "320m model." It's an exact copy of Hydrus at Casino Pier in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Hydrus opened a year before Adrenaline Peak. It was a slightly shorter version of the popular 320m+ layout.
