Adriana Benetti (born December 12, 1919 – died February 24, 2016) was a famous Italian actress. She starred in many films during the 1940s and 1950s.
Biography
Adriana Benetti was born in Quacchio, a small town near Ferrara, Italy. She finished school and then moved to Rome. There, she was accepted into the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. This was a special film school.
While at the school, a famous director named Vittorio De Sica discovered her. She made her first movie at age 22. This was in 1941, and the film was called Teresa Venerdì. She played the main character.
In 1942, Adriana appeared in several important films. She was in director Alessandro Blasetti's well-known movie Quattro passi fra le nuvole. She also acted alongside Gino Cervi in C'è sempre un ma!. Another film from that year was Avanti c'è posto... with Andrea Checchi and Aldo Fabrizi.
In 1943, she continued to be busy. She acted in Mario Soldati's Quartieri alti. Her co-stars included Massimo Serato and Vittorio Sanipoli. She also appeared in a French film, Les Petites du quai aux fleurs. In this movie, she worked with Bernard Blier and Gérard Philipe.
After the war, in 1945, Adriana was in two musical films. These were Torna a Sorrento with singer Gino Bechi. The other was O sole mio with opera star Tito Gobbi. In 1946, she acted with Fosco Giachetti in Il sole di Montecassino. She also worked with Eduardo and Titina De Filippo in Uno tra la folla.
In 1947, Adriana appeared in more films. These included Goffredo Alessandrini's Furia with Rossano Brazzi. She was also in Tombolo, paradiso nero directed by Giorgio Ferroni. Another film was Manù il contrabbandiere. In 1950, she acted with the famous Italian comedian Totò in 47 morto che parla.
Adriana Benetti was known for playing "ingénue" roles. An ingénue is a sweet, innocent young woman. Because of this, she was called "fidanzatina d'Italia" (Italy's little fiancée). This nickname was given to her by Assia Noris. As she got older, she appeared in fewer films.
In 1955, she played a teacher in Eighteen Year Olds. This movie was a new version of an older film called Schoolgirl Diary. Her last film was in 1957, called A vent'anni è sempre festa. After this, she stopped acting in movies.
