Advance is found in the eastern part of Davie County. The Yadkin River forms its eastern border, which is also the line for Davidson County.
The area of Advance is about 7.22 square miles (18.7 square kilometers). Most of this is land, with a small part being water. Nearby places include Bermuda Run, about 4 miles north, and Mocksville, the main town of Davie County, about 11 miles west. The biggest city close by is Winston-Salem, NC.

Where Did the Name "Advance" Come From?
There are a couple of ideas about how Advance got its name. Some people believe it was named after a well-known resident and formerly enslaved person, Samuel Vance Allen.
Other stories say that the community's residents chose the name. They hoped that if they got a post office, their community would "advance" and grow.
