Aenictogiton is a special group, or genus, of ants. There are seven known types, or species, in this group. These ants are so unique that scientists have given them their very own special family group called Aenictogitoninae.

What We Know About Aenictogiton Ants
So far, scientists have only found male Aenictogiton ants. They have been found in Central Africa. We don't know anything about the female ants, like the queens or the worker ants. We also don't know how these ants behave or what they do in their daily lives.
Scientists believe these ants are related to army ants. This connection is based on their phylogeny, which is like their family tree in the animal kingdom. Even though we don't know much, a few other types of Aenictogiton ants are known to exist in collections around the world. These have not yet been fully described by scientists.
Types of Aenictogiton Ants
There are seven known species of Aenictogiton ants. Each one was first described by a scientist. Here are the known species:
- Aenictogiton attenuatus
- Aenictogiton bequaerti
- Aenictogiton elongatus
- Aenictogiton emeryi
- Aenictogiton fossiceps
- Aenictogiton schoutedeni
- Aenictogiton sulcatus
