Agave mitis is a cool plant that grows naturally in Mexico. You can find it in the states of Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí. Many people and books also call this plant Agave celsii.

This plant is a type of Agave, which are known for their strong, spiky leaves. Agave mitis is special because of its unique look and where it grows.

What is Agave Mitis?

Agave mitis plants grow in a shape called a rosette. This means their leaves spread out from a central point, like a big flower. The leaves are usually a pretty blue-green or yellow-green color. They can grow quite long, up to 60 centimeters (about 2 feet).

Unlike some other agave plants, Agave mitis has softer spines. These spines are brown and not as sharp as those on many other agave types. So, you don't have to worry as much about getting poked!

Flowering Time

When it's time to flower, Agave mitis sends up a very tall stalk. This stalk can reach up to 2.5 meters (about 8 feet) high! The flowers grow closely together on this stalk. They form a narrow column, which looks very neat and compact.

The flowers themselves are green. Each flower can be up to 60 millimeters (about 2.4 inches) long. They add a unique touch to this already interesting plant.

Where it Grows

Agave mitis is native to specific parts of Mexico. It thrives in the dry and warm climates of Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí. These areas are perfect for this type of plant.

Is it Endangered?

Good news! The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) does not consider Agave mitis to be threatened. This is because the plant is found in many places. It also grows in several protected areas. This helps keep its population healthy and safe.
