Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Age of Mythology: The Titans is an exciting computer game released in 2003 by Ensemble Studios. It is an expansion pack for the popular game Age of Mythology. This game lets you control powerful armies and mythical creatures in a world inspired by ancient legends.

What is an Expansion Pack?

An expansion pack is like an add-on for a video game you already own. It brings new stories, characters, and ways to play. Age of Mythology: The Titans added a lot of new content to the original Age of Mythology game. It made the game bigger and more exciting by introducing a new group of people to play as and even more powerful creatures.

New Civilization: The Atlanteans

One of the biggest new features in The Titans is the addition of a brand-new civilization: the Atlanteans. In the original game, you could play as the Greeks, Egyptians, or Norse. Now, you can lead the Atlanteans, a people from the legendary lost city of Atlantis.

Atlantean Heroes and Powers

The Atlanteans have unique ways of playing the game.

  • Their regular human units can become powerful heroes. This means they can fight mythical monsters better.
  • They gather resources like food, wood, and gold differently. Their special "Favor" resource is gained simply by building new towns.
  • They have unique buildings and technologies that no other civilization has.
  • Their gods include powerful figures like Ouranos, Gaia, and Kronos. Each god gives you special powers and mythical units.

Powerful New Units: The Titans

The most exciting new addition in this expansion pack are the Titans themselves! These are incredibly huge and strong mythical creatures.

Unleashing a Titan

  • Each civilization can build a special "Titan Gate" in the late part of the game.
  • Once built, a massive Titan will emerge from the gate.
  • Titans are like walking fortresses. They can destroy buildings and armies very quickly.
  • They are extremely powerful, but also very expensive to create.
  • If you can get a Titan, it can often turn the tide of a battle.

Examples of Titans

Each civilization gets its own unique Titan:

  • The Atlanteans get the mighty Kronos.
  • The Greeks get the terrifying Cerberus.
  • The Egyptians get the powerful Scarab.
  • The Norse get the giant Ymir.

The Story Campaign

The Titans also adds a new story mode called a campaign. This campaign continues the adventures from the original game.

Campaign Storyline

  • The story focuses on the Atlanteans and their hero, Arkantos's son, Kastor.
  • You follow Kastor as he tries to stop the evil Titan, Kronos, from escaping his prison.
  • The campaign takes you through different lands and challenges.
  • You'll use the new Atlantean units and powers to complete missions.

Gameplay Basics

Age of Mythology: The Titans is a real-time strategy (RTS) game. This means you play in real-time, not turn by turn.

Building and Battling

  • You start with a small town and a few villagers.
  • You need to gather resources to build up your town and train an army.
  • You choose a main god and then minor gods to get special powers and mythical units.
  • Your goal is often to defeat your opponents by destroying their towns and armies.
  • The game combines history with mythology, letting you command heroes, soldiers, and legendary beasts like Minotaurs, Cyclops, and Rocs.
