What is a First Nations Reserve?
In Canada, a First Nations reserve is land set aside for the use of a First Nation group. These lands are managed by the First Nations themselves. They are important places for Indigenous communities. Reserves help preserve their culture and traditions.
Agency 1 is unique because it is shared by four different First Nations. These groups are:
- Couchiching First Nation
- Mitaanjigamiing First Nation
- Naicatchewenin First Nation
- Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation
These First Nations are part of the Anishinaabe people. The Anishinaabe are a large group of Indigenous peoples in North America. Sharing this land helps these communities work together.
