Where is Aghaward Fort?

Aghaward Fort is found about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) north of a small village called Ballinalee. It sits just north of Aghaward House. The area around the fort has several natural springs, which are places where water comes out of the ground. There are also many small streams, called tributaries, that flow into the River Camlin.

What Does Aghaward Fort Look Like?

Aghaward Fort is an ancient enclosure. It has a tall bank made of earth and a ditch on the outside. The earthen bank rises about 2.5 meters (8 feet) from the bottom of the ditch. This design helped protect the people who lived inside the fort long ago.
