Musical Journey
Early Start
Agile discovered his love for music in high school. After winning a school talent show, he knew he wanted a career in music. He started a DJ group with his friends called JLJ Productions.
Soon, Agile was DJing at events all over Toronto. He even worked with popular radio stations. This led him to fall in love with music production, which is the process of creating the beat and background music for a song.
Working with Stars
As a producer, Agile has worked with many famous artists. He has created music for big names like Nas, Kardinal Offishall, Melanie Fiona, and Jully Black.
In 2009, Agile released a special mixtape called Toronto Love Jay. It was a tribute to another famous producer, J Dilla, who had passed away. The mixtape was so popular that it won Mixtape of the Year at the 2009 Stylus DJ Awards.
More recently, Agile worked with the superstar rapper Drake. In July 2022, he was the main DJ for the 'Canadian All-Stars' show at OVO Fest. He even DJ'd for a surprise performance by Nelly Furtado.
Sharing His Knowledge
Besides making music, Agile also helps new artists. From 2010 to 2015, he was a teacher at The Remix Project in Toronto, a school for young people wanting to get into creative fields.
He is also on the board for the [SOCAN Foundation], an organization that helps support Canadian musicians.
Global DJ and Producer
DJ Agile has performed for audiences all over the world. He has traveled to places like the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He once represented Canada in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for a special Smirnoff event where he shared Canadian-style music with partygoers.
You might have also heard his work on TV. Agile produced the music for seasons three and four of the popular Netflix show, Hip-Hop Evolution.
Tools of the Trade
To create his sound, DJ Agile uses a mix of modern and classic tools. When he DJs, he uses special software called Serato DJ Pro, but he also uses traditional vinyl records.
For producing music, he uses computer programs like Logic Pro X and Pro Tools, along with a classic drum machine called the Akai MPC 3000.
Awards and Recognition
Agile's work with his group BrassMunk has been nominated for several Juno Awards, which are Canada's biggest music awards. He has also been nominated for many MuchMusic Video Awards. His win for Mixtape of the Year at the Stylus DJ Awards in 2009 is one of his major achievements.
