Agnès Jaoui (born 19 October 1964) is a talented French artist. She is well-known as an actress, a writer for movies, a film director, and a singer.
Agnès Jaoui has won many important awards for her work. These include six César Awards, which are like the French Oscars. She also won three Lumière Awards and a Best Screenplay Award at the famous Cannes Film Festival. Her film was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Life and Career
Agnès Jaoui was born in Antony, Hauts-de-Seine, France. Her family has roots from Tunisia. Both her parents, Hubert and Gyza Jaoui, were writers. When she was 8 years old, her family moved to Paris.
She started acting in high school at Lycée Henri-IV. At 15, she joined a drama school called Cours Florent. In 1984, she began taking drama classes at the Théâtre des Amandiers. The director, Patrice Chéreau, gave her a role in the movie Hôtel de France in 1987. That same year, she acted in a play called L'anniversaire with Jean-Pierre Bacri. He became a close friend and colleague.
Working with Jean-Pierre Bacri
Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri wrote a play together called Cuisine et dépendances. This play was later made into a movie in 1992. In 1993, a director named Alain Resnais asked them to adapt a long play into a two-part film. This became Smoking/No Smoking. This movie explored ideas about free will and destiny. It won a César Award for Best Original Screenplay or Adaptation in 1994.
They had even more success in 1996 with the movie Family Resemblances. This film showed their skill at looking closely at everyday life. It also used humor to comment on social rules. They won another César Award for Best Original Screenplay or Adaptation in 1997. That same year, they worked with Alain Resnais again on Same Old Song. They wrote the script and also acted in it. For this film, they won their third César Award for Best Original Screenplay or Adaptation. Agnès Jaoui also won her first César Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Directing Films
Agnès Jaoui directed her first full-length movie in 2000. It was called The Taste of Others (Le Goût des autres). She wrote it with Jean-Pierre Bacri. The film explored how people fit into different social groups. It was very popular in France, attracting 4 million viewers. It won 4 César Awards in 2001, including Best Film. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 2004, Jaoui directed her second film, Look at Me (Comme une image). She co-wrote this film with Bacri. It was shown at the Cannes Festival and won the prize for Best Screenplay. After this, she focused on her music. She returned to filmmaking in 2008 with Let's Talk About the Rain (Parlez-moi de la pluie).
In 2012, Jaoui directed Under the Rainbow (Au bout du conte). This movie, also co-written with Bacri, looked at classic fairy tales in a new way. It was praised by critics and audiences for its fresh ideas and funny dialogue.
Music
Agnès Jaoui studied music when she was 17. However, she did not start her singing career until 2006. That year, she released her first album called Canta. This album featured different types of Latin music, like flamenco and bossa. She sang only in Spanish and Portuguese. In 2007, Canta won a Victoire de la Musique award for "best traditional music album."
Her second album, Dans Mon Pays, came out in 2009. It also had Latin sounds and songs in Spanish and Portuguese. Two songs on this album were in French. In November 2024, Agnès Jaoui directed an opera called L'uomo femina.
Personal Life

Agnès Jaoui's mother, Gyza Jaoui, was a pioneer in a type of therapy called transactional analysis. Agnès also has a brother, Laurent Jaoui, who is a screenwriter and director.
Agnès Jaoui was in a relationship with Jean-Pierre Bacri from 1987 to 2012. Even after they broke up, they remained good friends. They continued to work together on many projects. In 2012, Agnès Jaoui adopted two children from Brazil. She is also a member of the 50/50 collective. This group works to support gender equality and diversity in the film industry.
