About Aguaviva
Location and Name
Aguaviva is in the eastern part of the Teruel province. It is part of a larger area called Bajo Aragón. The town's other name, Aiguaviva de Bergantes, comes from the local Catalan variety. It is named this way because the Bergantes river flows near the eastern edge of the town.
Important Buildings
The main historical building in Aguaviva is the parish church of San Lorenzo. This church is built in the beautiful Baroque style. It was carefully restored after a difficult period in Spain's history.
During that time, the church lost many of its valuable items. These included its large altarpiece, other important heritage pieces, and a magnificent pantheon. The pantheon is a special tomb, but it is now empty.
Besides the main church, there are also two other Baroque-style chapels. These buildings show the rich history and architecture of Aguaviva.
