Early Life and Titles
Agustín Muñoz was born in Madrid, the capital of Spain. At that time, his mother was the Regent of Spain. This meant she was ruling the country for her young daughter, Queen Isabella II of Spain. Agustín's parents had married in secret, so their marriage was not publicly known yet.
In 1840, Agustín and his family had to leave Spain and go to France. This is called going into exile. In 1842, his mother bought a large house called the Château de Malmaison. Agustín and his brothers and sisters grew up there.
In 1844, Agustín's half-sister, Queen Isabella II, was declared old enough to rule on her own. On November 19, 1847, Queen Isabella gave Agustín the special title of Duke of Tarancón. This title also came with the important rank of a Grandee of Spain. A Grandee was a very high-ranking noble in Spain. On June 10, 1849, she gave him a second title, Vizconde de Rostrollano.
Life in France and Passing
Because his mother was in exile, Agustín lived with her in France. They settled in the town of Rueil-Malmaison, which is near Paris. They lived in the Château de Malmaison, a famous palace that once belonged to Empress Joséphine.
Agustín died in this same palace on July 15, 1855. He was only 18 years old. He was buried in the Rueil-Malmaison cemetery. His mother had a special monument built there to remember her three sons who died before her while they were living in France.
