Agustín de Rojas Villandrando (born August 1572 – died before 1635) was a Spanish writer and actor. He was known for his plays and for writing about the theater world of his time.
Early Life and Travels
Agustín de Rojas Villandrando was born in Madrid, Spain. When he was younger, he served as a soldier in France. During this time, he was even held as a prisoner in a place called La Rochelle.
He traveled a lot throughout his life. He lived in many different cities across Spain, including Sevilla and Granada. He also faced some difficulties during his travels in Italy.
His Work as a Writer
Agustín de Rojas Villandrando was especially known for writing short plays called loas. These were often performed before a main play began.
One of his works, El buen republico, faced some challenges. It was not allowed by the authorities at the time because it discussed astrology.
Later Years and Death
Agustín de Rojas Villandrando passed away in Paredes de Nava, Spain. He died sometime before the year 1635. His wife, Ana de Arceo, whom he married in 1603, was referred to as a widow in 1635. His last known letter was written in 1618.
