Early Life and Education

Ahmed Osman was born in Oujda, Morocco, on January 3, 1930. He went to the Royal College of Rabat. There, he studied law alongside Hassan II, who would later become king.

After finishing his studies in Rabat, he continued his education. He went to Bordeaux, a city in France. In Bordeaux, he earned advanced degrees in both public and private law.

A Career in Government

Ahmed Osman held many different government roles. From 1959 to 1961, he was the secretary-general of the Ministry of Defence. This meant he helped manage the country's defense operations.

He also served as an ambassador for Morocco. An ambassador represents their country in another nation. He was the ambassador to West Germany from 1961 to 1962. Later, from 1968 to 1970, he was the ambassador to the United States.

Osman also worked in the Ministry of Mines and Industry. He was an under-secretary there from 1962 to 1964. From 1964 to 1967, he was the president of a large shipping company. This company was called the Moroccan General Navigation Company.

Becoming Prime Minister

On November 19, 1972, King Hassan II chose Ahmed Osman to be the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is the head of the government. During his time as Prime Minister, Osman made important diplomatic visits.

In January 1976, he visited France to discuss matters between the two countries. In December 1977, he met with President Jimmy Carter of the United States. He delivered a special message from the Moroccan king. In March 1978, he visited the Soviet Union. There, he signed a long-term agreement for Morocco.

Leading a Political Party

In 1978, Ahmed Osman started a new political party. It was called the National Rally of Independents (RNI). The next year, in 1979, he stepped down as Prime Minister. He wanted to spend more time leading his new party.

From 1984 to 1992, he served as the president of the House of Representatives. This is a very important role in Morocco's parliament. He continued to be the leader of the RNI party until 2007.

Family Life

Ahmed Osman married Princess Lalla Nuzha in 1964. She was the sister of King Hassan II. They had a son named Moulay Nawfal, who was born in 1966. Princess Lalla Nuzha passed away in 1977.

Ahmed Osman later married again. From his second marriage, he had another son named Ali. Ali is married to Alia Sefrioui.
