Ahmed Osman (born January 3, 1930) is a Moroccan politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Morocco from November 2, 1972, to March 22, 1979. He was the eighth Prime Minister of Morocco and worked under King Hassan II.

His Early Life

Ahmed Osman was born in Oujda, Morocco, on January 3, 1930. He went to the Collège Royal in Rabat. This is a special school where he studied alongside Hassan II, who would later become king.

He also studied law at a college in Rabat. Later, he continued his law studies in Bordeaux, France. There, he earned advanced degrees in both public and private law. Ahmed Osman also started a political group called the National Rally of Independents.

What He Did in Government

Ahmed Osman held many important jobs in the Moroccan government. From 1959 to 1961, he was the Secretary General for the Ministry of National Defence. This means he helped manage the country's military and defense plans.

He also served as an Ambassador for Morocco. He was the Ambassador to Federal Republic of Germany from 1961 to 1962. Later, he was the Ambassador to the United States from 1967 to 1972.

Other roles he had included:

  • Under Secretary for the Ministry of Mines and Industry (1962–1964)
  • President of the Moroccan General Navigation Company (1964–1967)
  • President of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) political party starting in 1977
  • President of the House of Representatives (1984–1992), which is like being the speaker of the country's parliament.

As Prime Minister

Ahmed Osman became the Prime Minister of Morocco in 1972. One of his first actions was a diplomatic visit to France. This trip helped strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

In 1977, he met with Jimmy Carter, who was the President of the United States. Ahmed Osman delivered a special message from the King of Morocco. In 1978, he visited the Soviet Union. During this visit, he signed an important long-term agreement between Morocco and the Soviet Union.

His Family Life

Ahmed Osman was married to Princess Lalla Nuzha of Morocco. She was the sister of King Hassan II. They were married from 1964 until her death in 1977.

They had one son together:

  • Moulay Nawfal Osman, who was born in 1966 and passed away in 1992.

Ahmed Osman later had another son from a second marriage:

  • Ali Osman, who is married to Alia Sefrioui.

Ahmed Osman has received several special awards, known as honours, from different countries.
