Ahrida Peak facts for kids
Ahrida Peak is a tall, pointy mountain peak in Antarctica. It rises to 3,100 meters (about 10,170 feet) high! This peak is part of the main ridge of the Sentinel Range, which is a large mountain chain in the Ellsworth Mountains. It stands above a big ice river called the Embree Glacier to its southeast. The name "Ahrida" comes from the old name for the Eastern Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria.
Where is Ahrida Peak Located?
Ahrida Peak is found in a specific spot in Antarctica: 78°01′48″S 86°06′46.6″W / 78.03000°S 86.112944°W. It is about 9.8 kilometers (6.1 miles) north-northeast of Mount Hale.
It is also 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) east of Silyanov Peak. The peak is 3.57 kilometers (2.2 miles) southwest of Mount Goldthwait. It is 9.13 kilometers (5.7 miles) northwest of Mount Todd in Probuda Ridge. The United States mapped this area in 1961 and again in 1988. This mapping helped us know exactly where Ahrida Peak is.
