Aindrias Mac Cruitín came from the Mac Cruitín family, who were known for being bards. Bards were special poets and storytellers in old Ireland. He was born in a place called Moyglass, near Milltown Malbay in County Clare. He lived and learned there for most of his life.
What Did Aindrias Do?
Aindrias worked as a teacher, helping others learn. He was also a scribe, which meant he copied books and documents by hand. We still have about a dozen of these handwritten books that he made! In 1727, he worked for a person named Dr. Brian Ó Lochlainn. He wrote many poems for Dr. Ó Lochlainn's family.
His Most Famous Poem
When Aindrias was older, he wrote his most famous poem. It was about the end of the old Gaelic way of life in Ireland. This change meant that the people who supported poets, called patrons, were losing their power. Because of this, Aindrias also lost his way of making a living.
When Did Aindrias Die?
Aindrias Mac Cruitín died in 1738. He was buried in his family's special burial place. This place is in the churchyard of Kilfarboy, which is also near Milltown Malbay in Clare.
