About Aisha Musa el-Said

Aisha Musa has a master's degree from the University of Manchester in England. In 1965, she earned a special diploma from the University of Leeds. This diploma was for teaching English as a second or foreign language (TEFL). During her time in England, she also did research for her doctorate degree. She was also the Secretary of the Sudanese Students Society.
Academic Work
Aisha Musa has held important roles in the academic world. She was a member of the committee for the al-Tayeb Salih International Awards. In January 2018, she led the Ghada Award for Young Writers Committee. She also worked as a professor at two universities in Saudi Arabia.
Working for Change
Aisha Musa has been very active in the women's rights movement in Sudan. She has worked for many decades to improve the lives and rights of women.
Role in the Sovereignty Council
In August 2019, Aisha Musa was chosen for the Sovereignty Council. This was part of a plan for Sudan's government after the revolution. The council was meant to lead the country for about 39 months. She was nominated by a group called the Forces of Freedom and Change alliance. In May 2021, she decided to leave the council. She explained that civilian voices, like hers, were not being heard enough.
Her Ideas and Beliefs
Aisha Musa has strong ideas about Sudan's identity. She believes Sudan has a special mix of Arabic and African cultures. She felt that past governments did not handle this mix well since Sudan became independent. She said these governments acted like "heirs of colonial policies." They did not encourage education enough. She also felt they kept power and knowledge in one place. This made it hard for people in distant areas to get what they needed.
Musa also believes that knowledge should not just be theoretical. She thinks it needs to be put into practice. She said, "Knowledge, without field work and atmosphere for practical application, stays a philosophy for theoretical contemplations." She means that learning should lead to real-world actions and products.
Her own field is translation. She sees translation as an independent art form. She believes translators are creative experts. They can "clone" or rephrase ideas from one language to another. She thinks translators and writers should work closely together. It is important for the translator to keep the original quality of the text.
