Akira Komatsu (小松 晃, Komatsu Akira, born 3 April 1962) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a striker for various teams. He also represented Japan in international matches.

Playing Career
High School Football
Akira Komatsu played football during his high school years. In 1981, he took part in the 59th All Japan High School Soccer Tournament. Playing for Akita Nishime High School, he scored an amazing goal from 50 meters away.
Club Football
From 1981 to 1990, Komatsu played for Yanmar Diesel. This team was in the first division of the Japan Soccer League. This was the top league for football in Japan at that time. He played nine seasons with them.
After that, he joined Kyoto Sanga F.C. for two seasons. This team was in the second division of the league.
Playing for Japan
In early 1981, Akira Komatsu played for the Japan national under-19 football team. He was part of the 1980 AFC Youth Championship. In the qualifying games and the championship, he scored 8 goals in 5 matches.
He then got his first chance to play for the main Japan national football team. This happened on January 30, 1981. He played against a young team from Poland. He came into the game in the 62nd minute.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Akira Komatsu became a coach. In 2006, he worked with the youth team (U-18) at Vissel Kobe.
From 2006 to 2011, he was the director of the soccer program at Kobe Gakuin University. This university program was connected to Vissel Kobe.
Since 2013, he has been a coach at Meitoku Gijuku High School. This school is in Kōchi Prefecture. His teams have played in the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament several times. He has also been the director for the Hirakata FC U-18 team.
Legacy
On August 11, 2019, Akira Komatsu was featured on TV. He appeared in an episode of the Tokyo Broadcasting System Television series called Disappeared Genius.
Personal
Akira Komatsu has a younger brother named Tsutomu Komatsu. Tsutomu is also involved in football. He used to be the manager for the TDK Soccer Club. He managed the team for nine years.
