Akira Komatsu (小松 晃, Komatsu Akira, born 3 April 1962) is a former Japanese football player. He was known for playing as a striker. Komatsu played for several clubs and also represented Japan internationally. After his playing days, he became a football coach.

Playing Career
High School Football
Akira Komatsu showed his talent early. In 1981, he played in the 59th All Japan High School Soccer Tournament. He was a striker for Akita Nishime High School. During this tournament, he scored an amazing goal from 50 meters away!
Club Teams
Komatsu played for Yanmar Diesel for nine seasons. This was from 1981 to 1990. Yanmar Diesel was in the top division of the Japan Soccer League at that time. After that, he played for Kyoto Shiko for two seasons. Kyoto Shiko was in the second division.
Playing for Japan
Akira Komatsu also played for his country. In early 1981, he was part of the Japan U-19 team. He played in the 1980 AFC Youth Championship. He scored 8 goals in 5 games during this period. He then played for the senior Japan national football team. His first game was on January 30, 1981. He played against a young team from Poland. He entered the game in the 62nd minute.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Komatsu became a coach. In 2006, he coached the youth (U-18) team for Vissel Kobe. From 2006 to 2011, he was the director of the soccer program at Kobe Gakuin University. This university program was connected with Vissel Kobe. He later left this role.
Since 2013, he has been a coach at Meitoku Gijuku High School. This school is in Kōchi Prefecture. His teams have played in the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament. He coached in the 92nd through 95th tournaments in the mid-2010s. He has also been the director for the Hirakata FC U-18 team.
Legacy and Recognition
Akira Komatsu's story was featured on TV. On August 11, 2019, he appeared on a show. It was called Disappeared Genius. This show was on Tokyo Broadcasting System Television.
Personal Life
Akira Komatsu has a younger brother named Tsutomu Komatsu. Tsutomu also worked in football. He was a manager for the TDK Soccer Club. He managed the team for nine years.
