Akron Township is a place where people live and work. It's located in the state of Michigan. The township has a total area of about 56.9 square miles (147.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, but about 4.0 square miles (10.4 square kilometers) is water.
Communities in Akron Township
Akron Township is home to several communities. Some of these are "unincorporated communities." This means they are not officially organized as a city or village, but they are still places where people live.
- The village of Akron is partly in the southern part of the township. It shares a border with Fairgrove Township. The Akron post office serves this area.
- Bay Park is an unincorporated community right on the edge of the township. It's located near Saginaw Bay. This area was first planned out as a neighborhood in 1885.
- Wisner is another unincorporated community. It sits on the border between Akron Township and Wisner Township.
- Thomas is an unincorporated community in the northern part of the township. It's also located on the shores of Saginaw Bay. This area was developed in different stages, starting in 1942.
How Big is Akron Township?
Akron Township covers a large area. It includes most of what are called "survey townships" 14 and 15 north of range 8 east. These are old ways of dividing land.
A small part of these areas, like Section 1 of T14N and Section 36 of T15N, are part of Columbia Township. These sections are around the village of Unionville.
The part of the township on the shores of Saginaw Bay is called Survey Township 15N. It has many full and partial sections of land, with some areas under water.

In 2000, there were 1,589 people living in Akron Township. There were 602 households, which means groups of people living together. Most of these were families.
