Al Alberts (born Al Albertini, August 10, 1922 – November 27, 2009) was a popular American singer and composer. He was best known as the lead singer of the famous vocal group The Four Aces.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Al Albertini was born on August 10, 1922, in Chester, Pennsylvania. As a teenager, he showed his talent early by appearing on a radio show called The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour.

After finishing South Philadelphia High School, he went to Temple University. Later, he joined the United States Navy. It was there that he met Dave Mahoney, and together they decided to form a music group. This group would later become The Four Aces.

Al Alberts' Music Career

Al Alberts and The Four Aces became very successful. They recorded many popular songs. One of their biggest hits was "Three Coins in the Fountain". This song was written for a movie with the same name. It became a number one hit twice in 1954 and even won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Another huge hit for The Four Aces was "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing". This song was the main theme for a 1955 movie. It stayed at number one on the music charts for four weeks and also won an Academy Award for best song.

In 1960, Al Alberts recorded "On the Way to Cape May". This song tells a story about two people falling in love while traveling to Cape May, New Jersey. It became a popular summer song, especially in the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas. Even today, you can still hear this song on the radio and online.

Al Alberts' Television Career

After his success in music, Al Alberts became a well-known television host in Philadelphia. He hosted a talent show called Al Alberts Showcase. This show aired on Saturday afternoons and featured local talents of all ages. Young singers and dancers would perform on the show.

The show also had a special group of young dancers called the "Show Stoppers" and a panel of local children known as the "Teeny Boppers". Al Alberts Showcase helped many young artists start their careers. Some famous people who appeared on the show include Andrea McArdle, Sister Sledge, The Kinleys, and Teddy Pendergrass.

Al Alberts hosted his show for 32 years. He retired in 2001, and the show stopped broadcasting.

Later Life and Legacy

Al Alberts passed away on November 27, 2009, at his home in Arcadia, Florida. He was 87 years old.

In 2010, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia honored Al Alberts. They added him to their Hall of Fame, recognizing his important contributions to music and television.
