Life and career
Alain Chabat was born in Oran, which was part of French Algeria at the time.
Starting with "Les Nuls"
His career in entertainment began in 1987. He helped start a comedy group called "Les Nuls" (which means "The Lame-os" or "The Zeros"). The group included Bruno Carette, Chantal Lauby, and Dominique Farrugia.
Their first TV show was on a French channel called Canal Plus. It was a funny science fiction show called Objectif Nul. This show was a playful take on the comic book Destination Moon from The Adventures of Tintin.
Comedy style
Alain Chabat is one of the few French comedians who can create humor like the famous American trio Zucker, Abrahams, and Zucker. This means his comedy often uses lots of references to pop culture, movies, and other shows. He has successfully made this style popular with French audiences.
Voice acting and awards
Besides acting, Chabat is the French voice of Shrek in all four Shrek films. He won an important award called the César Award for Best Debut in 1998 for his movie Didier. This award is given to the best first film by a director.
Later roles and hosting
He also starred in the movie Happily Ever After (2004). In 2006, he acted alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg in Prête-moi ta main, which he also wrote. He even played Napoleon Bonaparte in the 2009 film Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
In November 2022, Alain Chabat hosted a TV show called Le Late avec Alain Chabat on the channel TF1. It ran for 10 episodes during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
