Alain Chabat (born November 24, 1958) is a famous French actor, comedian, director, and TV host. He is known for his funny movies and for being the French voice of the famous green ogre, Shrek.
He first became popular in France with his comedy group, Les Nuls. Later, he created and hosted a game show called Burger Quiz, which became a huge hit. Chabat has also directed and starred in many popular comedy movies. Some of his most famous films are Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra, RRRrrrr!!!, and Houba! On the Trail of the Marsupilami.

Life and Career
Alain Chabat was born in Oran, Algeria. His family is Jewish. His career in entertainment started in 1987 when he formed a comedy group called "Les Nuls," which means "The Lame-os" in English. The group, which included Bruno Carette, Chantal Lauby, and Dominique Farrugia, became very popular on the French TV channel Canal+.
Their first show was a science-fiction comedy called Objectif Nul. As a member of Les Nuls and in his own movies, Chabat became known for a special kind of humor. His comedies often make fun of and reference other popular movies, TV shows, and pop culture, similar to American movies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun.
A Movie and TV Star
Chabat has had a very successful career in movies, both as an actor and a director. In 1997, he directed and starred in the movie Didier, about a dog that turns into a human. For this film, he won a César Award, which is like a French Oscar, for Best First Feature Film.
He has also acted in many other films. American audiences might recognize him as Napoleon Bonaparte in the 2009 movie Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. He also appeared in the TV series Kaamelott as the Duke of Aquitaine.
In November 2022, he hosted his own late-night talk show called Le Late avec Alain Chabat for 10 episodes.

The French Voice of Shrek
For French-speaking audiences, Alain Chabat is the voice of Shrek. He provided the voice for the main character in all four movies of the Shrek franchise, as well as the TV specials. He took the place of American actor Mike Myers for the French version of the films.
Asterix & Obelix
Chabat has a long history with the famous French comic book characters, Asterix and Obelix.
- Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra: In 2002, he directed and wrote this hugely successful movie. He also played the role of Julius Caesar. The film is considered a classic comedy in France.
- Asterix and Obelix: The Big Fight: Chabat developed an animated series for Netflix based on the Asterix comic book Asterix and the Big Fight. The series started streaming in 2025.
Burger Quiz
In 2001, Chabat co-created and hosted the TV game show Burger Quiz. The show is known for its silly questions and funny celebrity guests. It was so popular that it became one of the most-watched entertainment shows in French TV history. He returned to host the show when it was brought back in 2018.
