The Alameda Museum is a cool place to learn about the history and culture of Alameda, California. It's located right in Alameda, in the United States. This museum has lots of interesting things to see.

You can explore exhibits about old dioramas, tiny model ships, and fun toys. There are also displays about Native American culture and the brave Alameda fire department. Don't miss the sections on Neptune Beach and the famous comedian Phyllis Diller. The museum also changes its exhibits often, so there's always something new. They even work with kids to create some of the displays!

The Museum's Story: How it Started

The Alameda Museum first opened its doors in 1951. It was originally located in the basement of the old Carnegie Library. Imagine a museum hidden away downstairs!

Moving to New Homes

After about twenty years, the museum needed a new home. In 1971, it moved to Alameda High School. This move gave the Alameda Historical Society library more room. The museum paid a small amount each month to help with the school's costs.

However, the museum lost its space at the high school in 1981. That's when it moved to its current location on Alameda Avenue. This building has been its home ever since!

Who Helps the Museum?

Today, the museum gets money from the local county government. This funding helps it keep running and sharing Alameda's history.

In 2014, the museum held a special event called Diller Day. This day celebrated the life and work of the comedian Phyllis Diller. The museum even has a permanent exhibit dedicated to her.
