Alan Peacock is a former English footballer. He was born on October 29, 1937, in Middlesbrough, England. Alan played as a forward, which means he was one of the main players responsible for scoring goals for his team. He spent most of his playing days with Middlesbrough, but also played for Leeds United and Plymouth Argyle. He even played for the England national team!

Alan Peacock's Football Journey

Starting at Middlesbrough

Alan Peacock joined his hometown club, Middlesbrough, in 1954. By 1958, he became a regular player in the team. He often played alongside another famous footballer, Brian Clough. Brian Clough scored many goals, partly because Alan was very unselfish. Alan would often pass the ball to Brian, helping him score.

After Brian Clough left Middlesbrough in 1961, Alan Peacock became the team's top scorer. In the next season, he scored an amazing 24 goals in just 34 games! This showed how talented he was at finding the back of the net.

Playing for England

Because of his excellent goal-scoring, Alan Peacock was chosen to join the England squad for the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile. This was a huge honor! He made his first international appearance in a World Cup match against Argentina. It's quite rare for a player to make their England debut in a World Cup game.

In total, Alan played 6 games for England and scored 3 goals. Two of these goals came in a fantastic 4–0 win against Wales in November 1962.

Moving to Leeds United

In 1964, Alan Peacock moved to Leeds United. Leeds paid £55,000 for him, which was a lot of money back then! He joined the team to help them get promoted to a higher league. He certainly helped, scoring 8 goals in 14 games that season. Leeds United won promotion that year.

Alan stayed at Leeds for three more seasons. He scored 30 goals in 65 games for them. However, he started to get more injuries. Because of these injuries, he was sold to Plymouth Argyle in 1967 for £10,000.

Retirement from Football

Alan Peacock played only one season for Plymouth Argyle. Sadly, his injuries continued, and he had to retire from football in 1968. He was only 30 years old when he stopped playing. After his football career, he moved back to his hometown of Middlesbrough.

Alan Peacock was known for wearing the number 9 shirt, which is usually given to the main striker in a team. For forty years after football, he owned a newsagent's shop in Ormesby, Middlesbrough, which he recently sold.
