Playing for Clubs
Middlesbrough Years
Alan Peacock spent most of his football career playing for Middlesbrough. He joined the club in 1954. By 1958, he became a regular player on the team. He played alongside another famous footballer, Brian Clough.
Even though Clough scored most of the goals, Peacock was known for being unselfish. This means he often helped his teammates score instead of trying to score every goal himself. After Clough left Middlesbrough in 1961, Peacock became a top scorer. In the next season, he scored 24 goals in just 34 games!
Moving to Leeds United
In 1964, Peacock moved to Leeds United. The transfer cost £55,000. He joined the team to help them get promoted to a higher league. That season, Leeds United did get promoted, and Peacock helped by scoring 8 goals in 14 games.
He stayed at Leeds for three more seasons. During this time, he scored 30 goals in 65 games. However, he started to get injured more often.
Time at Plymouth Argyle
Because of his injuries, Leeds United sold Peacock to Plymouth Argyle in 1967 for £10,000. He played only one season there. In 1968, he had to stop playing football completely because of his injuries.
Playing for England
World Cup Debut
Alan Peacock's great goal-scoring skills earned him a spot on the England squad for the 1962 World Cup. He made his first international appearance in a World Cup match against Argentina. This was a very special debut, as only one other player, Allan Clarke, has made their England debut in a World Cup finals match since then.
International Goals
In total, Alan Peacock played 6 games for England. These games are called "caps." He scored 3 goals for his country. Two of these goals came in a big 4–0 win against Wales in November 1962.
Life After Football
After he stopped playing football, Alan Peacock returned to his hometown of Middlesbrough. He owned a newsagent's shop in Ormesby, Middlesbrough, for forty years. A newsagent's shop sells newspapers, magazines, and other small items.
In 2018, Alan Peacock was diagnosed with dementia. He passed away on June 29, 2025, at the age of 87.
