High School and College Basketball
Playing in High School
Wiggins went to Horizon Christian High School in San Diego, California. In his final year, he helped his team win a state championship. During that season, he averaged 19.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game.
College Career with San Francisco Dons
Wiggins played college basketball for the San Francisco Dons. He was on the team from 2003 to 2007. He became a starting player in his second year. That year, he led his team in blocks.
In his third year, Wiggins scored more points. He also led the West Coast Conference (WCC) in blocks, with 2.1 blocks per game. In his final year, he was named to the first-team All-WCC. He also won the Father William Dunne Award, which is given to the team's most valuable player.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting His Pro Career
Wiggins began his professional basketball journey with the Tri Valley Titans. This team was part of the International Basketball League (IBL). He was chosen in the 2007 Continental Basketball Association (CBA) draft. However, he decided to start his career in France with Cholet Basket. With Cholet, Wiggins won the LNB Pro A Leaders Cup during the 2007–08 season.
Playing in Different Countries
Wiggins played for BC Dnipro-Azot in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague during the 2012–13 season. He was the top scorer and rebounder for his team that year. On August 9, 2013, he signed with the Chiba Jets Funabashi in Japan's B.League.
In October 2017, Wiggins joined the Adelaide 36ers in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). Sadly, he broke his arm in his very first game. Another player, Josh Childress, then took his place.
On August 8, 2018, Wiggins signed with Soproni KC in Hungary. In October 2021, he joined HKK Posušje in the Bosnian First Division.
In January 2023, Wiggins signed with KB Ponte Prizreni in Kosovo. However, he had to have surgery due to some health issues. On January 12, Ponte Prizreni announced that Wiggins would leave the team without playing any games.
Family Life
Alan Wiggins Jr. comes from a family of athletes. His father, Alan Wiggins, was a professional baseball player. His sister, Candice Wiggins, played in the Women's National Basketball Association. Another sister, Cassandra, played college basketball for the NYU Violets.
