Alan Woods, born on October 12, 1978, is a former American soccer player. He used to play as a defender. Alan played for one season in Major League Soccer (MLS) and six seasons in the USL First Division. Today, he coaches the women's soccer team at Oglethorpe University.

Playing in Youth Leagues

Alan Woods went to Paint Branch High School. In 1995, he was recognized as an "All Met Honorable Mention" soccer player.

In 1996, he started playing college soccer at the University of Notre Dame. There, he was named to the "Big East All-Rookie team." He also earned a spot on the "second team All Great Lakes Region."

He moved to Clemson in 1998. At Clemson, he was chosen for the "first team All ACC" and "first team All South." In March 1998, Alan was even called to train with the United States men's national under-23 soccer team. This was for a game against Canada.

Playing as a Professional

The Colorado Rapids picked Alan in the first round of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft. This was the tenth pick overall. However, they let him go after he played just five minutes in his first game.

He then joined the Charleston Battery in the USL A-League. He started in 26 out of 27 games for them. He was named the "Battery Rookie of the Year."

In April 2001, the Rapids traded the rights to Alan to the New England Revolution. Alan then signed with the Revolution. He played eighteen games for them. He was even named to the MLS team of the week once.

In 2002, Alan joined the Atlanta Silverbacks in the USL First Division. He played with them for three seasons. He was the team captain for two of those years. In 2003, he was named the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP). He also made the "Second Team All-League."

In September 2003, he tried out for a team called CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria. He was offered a contract but decided not to sign it.

On February 18, 2005, Alan returned to the Charleston Battery. He signed a two-year contract. He played ten games and scored one goal. On July 6, 2005, Alan moved to the Virginia Beach Mariners. He played the rest of the 2005 season and all of 2006 with them. He was named the Mariners' "Defensive MVP."

Alan Woods: A Coach

After his playing career, Alan Woods started coaching. He coached the Cape Henry High School soccer team for one season. He also worked as an assistant coach at Nichols College for one season.

In 2008, Alan became the head coach for the Oglethorpe University women's soccer team. He also coached the U-13 girls Blue team at the Roswell Santos soccer academy. In 2009, he joined the Concorde Fire Soccer Academy. There, he coached the U-14 girls central team and the U-14 central black team. He is currently coaching the 2011 Girls ECNL team at UFA, United Futbol Academy in Forsyth, Georgia.
