Albert Kirby Fairfax, 12th Lord Fairfax of Cameron (born June 23, 1870, died October 4, 1939) was an interesting person from America. He became the 12th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. He also served as a special representative for Scotland in the British Parliament's House of Lords. This meant he helped make laws and decisions for the United Kingdom.
Early Life and His Title
Albert Kirby Fairfax was born in Largo, Maryland, USA. His family had lived in the United States for many years. Because of this, his family's old noble title had been mostly forgotten.
However, researchers discovered that Albert was the rightful person to hold this old title. After careful study, the House of Lords in Britain officially recognized him. In 1908, he became the 12th Lord Fairfax of Cameron. His father was John Fairfax, 11th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, and his mother was Mary Brown Kirby.
His Career and Role
Lord Fairfax of Cameron was involved in business. He was a member of Fairfax & Company in London. He was also a partner at Bonbright & Company, another business in London.
In 1908, he became a citizen of the United Kingdom. This was an important step for him. Later, in 1917, he was chosen to be a Scottish Representative Peer. This meant he represented Scotland in the House of Lords. He served in this important role until he passed away in 1939.
Family Life
Lord Fairfax of Cameron married Maude Wishart McKelvie in 1922. Her father was James McKelvie.
Albert and Maude had two sons:
- Thomas Brian McElvie Fairfax, 13th Lord Fairfax of Cameron (born May 14, 1923 – died April 8, 1964). He later married Sonia Helen Gunston.
- Peregrine John Wishart Fairfax (born March 8, 1925 – died February 23, 2012).
The 12th Lord Fairfax passed away in October 1939. He was 69 years old. After his death, his oldest son, Thomas, became the 13th Lord Fairfax of Cameron.
