Playing Career Highlights
Albert Jorquera was born in Bescanó, Catalonia, Spain. He started playing football in FC Barcelona's youth teams in 1994. Later, he moved to their C team in 1998. The next year, he joined the B team.
Early Career and Loans
Jorquera was loaned to other clubs like AD Ceuta and CE Mataró. These teams played in a league called Segunda División B. After these loans, he returned to Barcelona's reserve team as the main goalkeeper.
Joining the Main Barcelona Team
His first game in La Liga (Spain's top football league) was on 17 January 2004. He played against Athletic Bilbao, and the game ended in a 1–1 draw. He played so well that he was named the best player of the match.
The next season, he officially joined the main Barcelona squad. This happened after another goalkeeper, Rüştü Reçber, left the team.
Injury and Later Years
In March 2007, Jorquera signed a new contract with Barcelona. But in December of that year, he got a serious knee injury while playing for the Catalonia national football team. This injury kept him from playing for six months. Because of this, Barcelona brought in another goalkeeper, José Manuel Pinto, to help the team.
In March 2008, Jorquera signed another contract extension. On 9 December 2008, he started a UEFA Champions League game against FC Shakhtar Donetsk. Barcelona lost 2–3. The main goalkeeper, Víctor Valdés, was rested for a big game against Real Madrid that weekend.
Jorquera joined Girona FC in August 2009. This team played in the Segunda División, which is the second-highest league in Spain. Barcelona still had the option to call him back if they needed him. He played as the main goalkeeper for most of the 2009–10 season. At 31 years old, he decided to retire from playing football for personal reasons.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Jorquera became a coach.
- In 2014, he joined UE Llagostera as a goalkeeping coach. This team had just moved up to the second-tier league.
- In October 2017, he left Barcelona's youth coaching team. He became an assistant coach for FC Sion in Switzerland, working with his former teammate Gabri.
- In December 2018, he again worked as an assistant coach with Gabri at FC Andorra. This club was taken over by famous footballer Gerard Piqué.
- In August 2020, Jorquera got his first head coaching job at FC Santa Coloma in Andorra's top league.
- Eleven months later, he returned to his goalkeeping coach role at UE Llagostera, which was now called UE Costa Brava.
Playing Style
Albert Jorquera was a tall and reliable goalkeeper. He was known for his quick reflexes and ability to predict where the ball would go. He was also very agile. Throughout his career, he was praised for his hard work, determination, and strong mindset.
Life Outside Football

Albert Jorquera is the cousin of another Barcelona youth player, Marc Crosas. Marc also played for other clubs, including Celtic.
After he stopped playing football, Albert Jorquera used his degree in gemology (the study of gemstones) from the University of Barcelona. He joined his family's jewellery business.
In February 2011, he was part of a political list for local elections in Girona. He was not elected, but his party did win many seats in the city hall.
