Albert Torrens (born 1 July 1976) is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played in the 1990s and 2000s. Albert was known for playing as a centre or a winger. He played for several teams, including the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, Northern Eagles and St. George Illawarra Dragons in Australia's NRL. He also played for the Huddersfield Giants in England's Super League.
Playing Career
Albert Torrens started his top-level rugby league career in 1998. His first game was for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. In 1999, he was one of the top try scorers for the season. He scored as many tries as famous player Steve Menzies. Albert even scored three tries in one game, which is called a "hat-trick." This was in Manly's last game before they joined with another team, the North Sydney. Together, they formed a new team called the Northern Eagles.
Albert played for the Northern Eagles for three seasons. After the Northern Eagles team ended, Albert joined the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles again. He played with them until the end of 2004. In 2005, Albert moved to the St George Illawarra Dragons. He played one season with them. After that, he moved to England. He played for the Huddersfield Giants club in the English Super League. Albert retired from playing rugby league at the end of 2006.
Life After Rugby
After retiring from playing rugby, Albert Torrens started a new career. He worked as an Indigenous outreach worker for Mission Australia. This job helps connect with and support Indigenous communities. In 2009 and 2010, he went to Curtin University in Western Australia. There, he studied Indigenous community health.
